HOW TO USE VIAGRA

Get in the mood

You still need to be sexually aroused for it to work, so everything needs to be exciting. You’ve got this.

Take the pill

Take a pill an hour before you want to have sex. Sildenafil starts to work within 30-60 mins and maximum erection potential happens around the 1 hour mark.

Enjoy

Sildenafil lasts for around 4 hours (sometimes longer for some men). So relax, no need to rush.

A note from our doctor

Erections really aren’t that easy. For a lot of men. About 40% of men have erection difficulties by age 40. But help is here. Sildenafil is one option for men with E.D. and lasts for around four hours. Whatever the cause, it helps for the vast majority of men.

Frequently asked

Yes, Sildenafil is exactly the same as Viagra. Sildenafil is the active ingredient in branded Viagra, which you can now buy as non-branded Sildenafil tablets.  Learn more on our blog

Sildenafil is a PDE5 inhibitor, meaning it works by allowing blood vessels to expand and relax. This increases blood flow to the penis when a man is aroused, which improves sexual performance for men with erectile dysfunction (ED). Sildenafil and Viagra work in exactly the same way, because the active ingredient is identical.

Most men experience the effects of Sildenafil for up to 4 hours. Usually this is 2-3 hours, but occasionally up to 6.

Sildenafil usually starts to work within 30-60 minutes. Maximum erection potential is usually after 1 hour. Learn more on our blog.

You can buy Viagra online in the UK. However, it’s worth being aware that it’s the world’s most counterfeited drug – and there are lots of online vendors who are pulling a fast one. If it looks too good a deal, it almost certainly is. Taking counterfeit Viagra can be seriously bad for your health. Viagra and Sildenafil can only be legally sold by licensed pharmacies, and you should be given a consultation before you are allowed to buy it.

Here at Manual, all of our medication comes from the officially accredited Manual Pharmacy. Before you buy, you will receive a consultation from one of our clinicians, who are all registered with the UK’s General Pharmaceutical Council.

There are many causes of ED, generally split into psychological or organic/psychological causes (such as medications, hormonal, neurovascular, anatomical factors). In many patients it can be a combination of factors, and so we advise having a checkup by a doctor. We give comprehensive guidance on what you should have checked with our prescription message.

Approximately 40% of men are affected by ED at age 40 and nearly 70% at 70. But most men don’t seek treatment for it. If you’re experiencing erectile dysfunction, don’t ignore it. There is plenty of help available. Go for a check-up and see what might be the cause.

If you decide to treat ED, an oral medication like Sildenafil is the most popular way to start. Many men find knowing it’s there improves their sexual confidence. So much so that, over time, their erections often improve, and they can stop taking medication. For others, it’s just there when they need it. That's okay. Provided you take it as prescribed, it won’t do you harm.

At Manual, we’re experts at treating erectile dysfunction. We’ll ensure it's safe for you, and give you all the guidance you need.

It’s suggested that 80% of men who take Sildenafil achieve erections strong enough for sex.

Sildenafil (Viagra) was the first treatment to be clinically approved to treat erectile dysfunction. Since then a number of similar medications have come onto the market, such as Cialis, Levitra, and Spedra. In a review of 82 trials covering over 47,000 patients, Sildenafil 50mg was found to be the most effective of all other comparable medications. Hence why it's our treatment of choice.

Are you considering taking Viagra or Sildenafil for the first time? It’s suggested that 80% of men who take Sildenafil achieve erections strong enough for sex. If present, side effects from taking sildenafil are usually mild and temporary.

The most common side effects of Sildenafil are: Headache, flushing, indigestion, nasal congestion, dizziness, nausea, hot flushes, vision changes (such as having a blue colour tinge, or blurred vision).

Please read the patient information leaflet carefully for a full list of side effects and advice, or check out our article on the Health Centre

If you are intending to have sex daily, Sildenafil can be used daily. This is completely safe. However, it is recommended that you don’t exceed one dose a day. The effects of Sildenafil don’t accumulate if you take more in advance. Use it only when you need it.

The normal dosage of Sildenafil is 50mg and this has the desired effect for the vast majority of men who use it. It can also be taken in 25mg and 100mg forms. These are designed for the small number of cases in which 50mg is not appropriate.

While you may be tempted to have a drink when taking Viagra, it is not hugely recommended to mix Sildenafil with excessive alcohol. Alcohol makes it more difficult for you to get an erection. Meanwhile, both alcohol and Sildenafil lower your blood pressure, making the side effects – dizziness and headaches – more likely.

For the same reasons, it is not a good idea to take Viagra if you are on medications containing nitrates. Nitrates are usually found in medication for heart disease and high blood pressure. They work by widening your blood vessels to decrease your blood pressure. Sildenafil does the same – and combining them can result in a dangerous decrease in blood pressure.

The recommended retail price for branded Viagra Connect is £19.99 for four tablets. This is equivalent to about £5 per pill. When buying Viagra, however, you are mainly paying for the name. Sildenafil can be bought at significantly lower cost. At Manual, Sildenafil is available from as little as £2 per tablet – for the same dosage.

In the UK, Sildenafil was once only available as the branded version, Viagra. In 2013, however, the patent expired, and it became legal to manufacture the drug under its generic name, Sildenafil. In 2018, Sildenafil no longer needed a prescription to be sold. Instead, licensed pharmacists judge whether it is safe for someone to take the drugs before they sell it.

At Manual, this is what we do. Before you buy Sildenafil, you’ll complete an online consultation with our accredited pharmacists.

The Sildenafil in Viagra is one of a number of PDE5 inhibitors that are used to treat ED. Tadalafil , the active agent in Cialis, is a popular alternative to Viagra that works in a slightly different way. Rather than for four hours, Tadalafil is active for 36 hours.
