Learn more about transplants
There are two types of hair transplant methods: FUT (Follicular Unit Transplant) and FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction). The best option for you will depend on your individual needs and the recommendations of your physician.
FUT Transplant
Involves taking a strip of skin with hair follicles from the donor site, typically the back of your head where hair is naturally fuller and less prone to balding.
FUE Transplant
FUE involves harvesting hair follicles from a donor site at the back of the head and moving them to create a fuller, natural-looking hairline.

Hair Transplants: everything you need to know
Curated by Dr. Earim Chaudry, Manual Medical Director
Should I get a hair transplant?
The biggest reason that men decide to get a hair transplant is to increase their self-esteem and take control of their appearance. With advances in technology and procedures over the last 20 years, men undergoing transplant procedures now get a rejuvenation of natural looking hair with these very well-established surgical procedures. If you too want to regain your confidence and take control of your hairline and your look, then you should consider a hair transplant.
Is a hair transplant a replacement for hair loss medications like Minoxidil and Finasteride?
If your goal is to stop further hair loss, then medications can achieve this goal. However, many men decide to choose a transplant in order to be able to grow hair in areas where follicles have been permanently lost. For many patients, it is recommended to continue taking hair loss medications before and after transplant surgery (except within a week of the surgery date, in the case of Minoxidil!). This is because medications both make hair appear thicker and stop further hair loss, therefore protecting the look achieved through the hair transplant
Is hair transplant surgery permanent? Does it really work?
Transplanted hair behaves in a similar way to the hair from where it was taken. The hair in the donor area is genetically different to the balding hair, and therefore will not fall out in a similar pattern to previous balding. If the procedure is done correctly, it will last a lifetime for most people or at least well into old age. We simply re-distribute existing donor hair to your thinning areas. Sometimes as you get older, one may experience hair thinning throughout the donor area (the back and sides). If this happens, then the transplanted hair will follow the same pattern.
Does it look natural?
Yes! Carefully designed and skilfully performed FUE and strip FUT will look very natural. We only partner with surgeons who appreciate the need for, and deliver, a natural look!
Should I be concerned about getting hair transplant surgery?
Scarring: scarring can be minimised by the best surgeons, with visible scarring avoided... and we only partner with the best surgeons.
Pain: the donor and recipient areas will be numbed under local anaesthetic, and so you will not be under pain
The length of surgery: most procedures take between 4-8 hours
Scabs: scabs are likely to appear, and disappear, within 10 days
What sort of growth should I expect in the weeks after surgery?
Everybody’s hair grows back at a different rate - for example, with very fine or light hair, it might take longer to see results. Hair regrowth will also vary depending on the type of surgery that you take.
As a very rough timeline, you can expect that:
Scabs will form and fall off within 10 days
New hair growth will begin to break through the skin at around 2-4 months after the procedure.
It will take at least 4-8 months for the new hair to make any significant cosmetic difference to your appearance.
Most will attain their ‘final’ result at around 12 months, although this may take as long as 18 months to be achieved.
Can anybody have a hair transplant?
Yes, except for hemophiliacs and people with significant or relevant medical conditions or those with no donor area at all. Sometimes, although you can physically have a transplant, the surgeon may advise against it for a handful of reasons, for example if you are too young. Our clinics will explain in detail if something like this is relevant to you.
Can I take medication before, during, and after my surgery?
Short answer – for most people, before and after is advised. Before treatment, patients can benefit from taking medication to increase the density and quality of their hair. After treatment, it is advisable for patients to take hair loss medication daily to sustain the look achieved through surgery by preventing further hair loss. Around the surgery date, any Minoxidil medications must be paused for up to 2 weeks.
How long does Hair Transplant Surgery take?
A single Hair Transplant Surgery usually takes from four to eight hours as determined by our team to achieve your hair restoration goals. You are seated during the process, and the surgeon and staff are there with you to maximise your comfort throughout the procedure.
Does it leave a scar?
There is no surgery that can be performed that will leave absolutely no scars. The art of the hair transplant is to minimise that scarring, and to minimise how visible it is. Some people will choose FUE because they would prefer to avoid a linear scar, but for all types of transplants, you can minimise your chance of scarring by choosing a reputable and experienced clinic. Our partner surgeons and Hair Transplant Specialists will be happy to discuss any concerns that you have around scarring or other cosmetic issues.

This has honestly revived my hair. I was going bald from the age of 19 and by 21 my hairline was completely gone. I’ve been taking this for 6 months and my hair line has grown back completely to how it was.
